by KittyCat on July 2, 2010

Recently, I had to go back to the kitchen again and cook for the whole family. Okay, not true. I HAD to cook for 2 little people and then figure out lunch and dinner for myself and the Hubby.
In the end, I just cooked for everyone Easier that way, isn’t it?
Anyway, I had [...]

Fishball and mustard leaves soup

by KittyCat on January 11, 2010

Hello! I’m terribly, terribly, terribly sorry for not posting the past 2 months. If you’ve been following my other blog, you’ll know that I’ve just had a baby.
Of course, I’ve also had my Mum cooking dinner almost every night thus I didn’t need to dig up recipes or slave in the kitchen for home-cooked food [...]

In China, the preschool serves this daily menu ALL prepared in their kitchen:

Cool barley for the hot summer

by KittyCat on August 23, 2009

I remember the boiled pearl barley (and sugarcane juice) from childhood days growing up in my Chinese grandmother’s house. Even my Mum would boil it for us sometimes especially when the weather is hot because pearl barley has cooling properties.
Did you know that Koreans drink a barley tea regularly in place of water? If you [...]

Penang Fried Koay Teow

by KittyCat on June 11, 2009

This is a backdated post of my attempt at frying Penang “char koay teow” (stir-fried rice noodles with prawns). As I was craving for Malaysian hawker food during the earlier stage of my pregnancy, I decided, “If I can’t buy it, then I’ll cook it!”

I adapted the recipe from “Malaysian Hawker Favourites” (by Periplus Mini [...]

Fried fish in sweet and sour sauce

by KittyCat on April 23, 2009

I got this recipe from my Mum’s 1970s book titled “A Basic Course in Home Management” by Lilian Tan and P. Visvalingam. Since I don’t use vinegar, I just omitted it. I also added chopped tomatoes to the recipe. The fish still came out tasty and the gravy was nice to accompany white rice.

Simple Beef Stew

by KittyCat on April 19, 2009

I’ve been yearning for a beef stew that I decided to wing it when Hubby bought some nice lean beef. Using the ‘magic’ slow cooker, I found this a simple, delicious, fragrant, nutritious and comforting dish that even the fussy little eater will eat with rice
INGREDIENTS
Lean beef – cut into small cubes (lightly [...]

Pumpkin, celery, chicken and wolfberry soup

by KittyCat on February 21, 2009

Temperature: 16 deg C
As the weather’s still cool and we’re in undershirts, sweaters and socks, I’ve been cooking soups almost every day. Here’s one I’d “created” by dumping what’s left in the fridge into the slow cooker. I swear the slow cooker’s “a magic pot” because ANYTHING you cook in it turns out delicious!
INGREDIENTS
1 stalk [...]

Stir Fry Curried Squid

by KittyCat on December 15, 2008

When I started packing stuff to bring back to Malaysia, Hubby grumbled *often* about the many packs of curry, chilli and turmeric powder I had. Hey, some of them were given to me! (by well-meaning friends in Malaysia who either sent, passed via friends or pushed them to us… )
Maybe it’s his way of [...]
