When we visited Beijing last year, we were lucky enough to try TWO types of Peking duck – one at the famous Quan Ju De restaurant on Wangfuqing Street and another at the Olympic Green.
QUAN JU DE RESTAURANT
Four hungry families (with 6 kids) trudged down Wangfuqing Street and trooped into this crowded restaurant tucked away [...]

This was the first lunch I had with my badminton-playing Mothers group (Chinese, Hongkies, Taiwanese, Malaysians and Singaporeans) and boy, was it fun! We went to this restaurant out of chance because the one we wanted to go to went out of business
Since there are almost 20 of us, we had to look [...]

If you plan to visit or live in China and you don’t know enough Chinese to pass the driving test or are not entitled to a car or a personal driver, no worries! You can choose to walk, ride a bicycle, take a taxi, take a bus and if you’re brave enough, even take a [...]

When my sister sent me the link to Red FM, I was ecstatic that I could listen to Malaysian news reports and popular English hits like Timbaland’s “Apologize” (my current fave), Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” (so appropriate!), Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose”, good old Fleetwood Mac and yummylicious Enrique Iglesias…

Also, he got much much better when I put him back on his Rhinathiol and ventolin syrup. Although he irritated the hell out of me when he resumed [...]

I was reading this article “Maid agents from hell” in The Star and wonder how my fate will be when we return after the Christmas and Spring Festival holidays…
Because our families have little history of employing maids or nannies, I have little experience with them. However, as a) I’m on my own here with an [...]

It’s coming close to a month since the melamine in milk scandal in China broke out.
CRYING OVER SPLIT MILK…
When the news got out, we literally had to throw out all milk and dairy products such as:
NESTLE’S PURE MILK
This the only brand non-China folks will buy either for home consumtion or for business. One of my [...]

Ok, I really need the experts on Chinese culture and customs to help me out on this one. As my father had recently passed away, I’m wondering if I can celebrate Chinese New Year?
When he died:
…none of our Chinese neighbours would accompany me for a minor surgical procedure because it’s bad “feng shui” for them
…my [...]
