We could find bananas (imported from Thailand), papaya (the Hawaiian type), oranges, grapes and apples (imported from the United States) watermelon and kiwi fruit (imported from Australia) in the supermarket.

One evening, Hubby came home and asked me, “Would you like to spend the weekend in Shanghai?” That’s my husband…he’ll surprise you with questions like this! Doing some quick mental planning, I asked how long we’d be there – about 5 days. I said, “Let’s go!”

When a friend told me there’s ‘roti telur’ here, I couldn’t believe it. Of course, I had to try it and was [...]

At the wet market one day, I peered curiously at folks perched on tiny, tiny stools around tiny, tiny tables under a huge tree near a Chinese temple.
I was out of ideas for breakfast and somehow, none of the dry stuff like bread, fried cakes or man tou appealed to me.
I noticed that they were [...]

I’d received a lunch invitation from the expat community but since I can only handle small meals now, I didn’t join in the Mexican food buffet. Instead, we went there for my birthday lunch
Coyote Restaurant was easy to find as it’s at a cosy corner opposite Yuandang Lake. There was also a map [...]

“One man’s meat is another man’s poison”
Visitors who have visited mainland China tend to come back with tales of having to scoop out inches of oil or lard off their main dishes or drowning EXTREMELY salty pieces of meat, fish or vegetables with lots of soup before attempting to eat them.
Or…these visitors end up eating [...]
