Chinese New Year decorations

Chinese New Year is just a few weeks away and it’s time to put up the red and gold decor!!!

No idea what to choose? Here’s my simple guide (based on my 35 years’ experience growing up in my Chinese grandmother’s and mother-in-law’s homes):

Wall Decorations

Every time we arrive at my mother-in-law’s home, we are all psyched up to celebrate the Chinese New Year because it is SO FESTIVE!!!

Bright red lanterns are hung around the entrance and couplets (or “dui lian”) pasted on either side of the door.

Having the Chinese character for “luck” on various ornaments or household items is another way to join in the festivities 🙂

Soft Furnishings
Spring Festival is celebrated according to the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, so you join in the celebration by focusing on that theme e.g. 2019 is the Year of the Pig.

Since I cannot help out with the home preparations for Chinese New Year, I would buy bright red, gold or orange throw pillows. Food hampers make great gifts too.

Here’s wishing you “Xin Nian Kuai Le, Wan Shi Ru Yi” 😀
