If your kids will be going to college this September, I hope that someone has shown them or at least prepared them in some way that college is NOT high school.
Many young adults have trouble adjusting to life in college – in fact some suffer acouture shock in the firest semester and freak out totally that that just shut it all out and go home.
Relax. Breathe. Think.
What do you need to do first?
Who is helpful or friendly? Make friends.
No friends? No sweat.
If you are smart enough to make it to college, then you are smart enough to stand on your own feet for a while.
For example, Yan Yan a young Chinese girl from Lensey Namioka’s An Ocean Apart, a World Away went away to college in US and was quite overwhelmed by American culture, the English language and American cuisine.
Although she found a group of Chinese students, she realized it isn’t easy being accepted as part of the group either. She felt truly alone.
However, she stood strong and focused on doing her beast in her classes. In the end, she had a great experience.
Hang in there, okay? Tomorrow may be a better day than today.Promise.
