The Perfect Tote Bag

23 July, 2012

I have been browsing through the websites of Bloomingdale’s, JC Penney, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom the past week because someone I know is visiting San Diego and buying me a handbag!!!

Remember my earlier post about needing a new handbag?

Of all the websites I checked out, I found Bloomingdale’s the best because it carried a variety of brands and bags. Macy’s wasn’t too bad either.

I also checked out the online sites of Burberry (nice!), Coach (hopeless), Cole Haan, Gucci, Kate Spade and yes, even Louis Vuitton – you can guess that I was going a bit nutty by then LOL

In the end, I lined up the following photos for my “personal” shopper:

1. Rafe New York Amanda Sequins Bag

I’d given up on Nordstrom until I came upon this tote bag – nice, isn’t it?

This tote bag is perfect for me because it’s:

  • a neutral shade of brown with sequins thrown in for a bit of detail,
  • a flattering shape that’s neither too bit nor too small,
  • got two straps and pockets for small stuff,
  • not necessarily leather :D
  • on sale for less than US$100! (Original price: > US$230)

2. Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Medium Tate Bag

I’d been eyeing this nylon tote bag for a while because it’s a lightweight nylon bag and I really like the black and white Marc Jacobs print inside the bag.
It must be a really popular bag because it’s almost always sold out. It costs about US$130+ that I wonder if I should be paying that much for just a tote bag…

3. Cole Haan Jitney Tote Bag

If you know me, you will know that this is my signature tote bag. Yes, I probably 5-7 tote bags in this style :D

Tote bags like this one by Cole Haan are just perfect for me because it’s got:
  • sturdy straps
  • a nice and flattering shape and
  • a color that’s almost dirt-proof ;-)
However, I have way too many canvas tote bags to want to get another one. I’m keeping this for records just in case one of my favourites break down and someone’s heading for the US again.

4. Michael Kors Patent Python Tote Bag

Okay, this is quite a big departure from my regular style even though it’s in a rectangular shape.

For one thing, it’s a bright and shiny PYTHON leather!!!
I tend to stay away from shiny things because they attract a lot of attention – I have a weakness for rhinestones and sequins though.
Also, I have a thing against snakes so I doubt I could happily carry a handbag made from the skin of a slithery animal I’d scream and run away from (shudders)…
Seriously, I once brought my students out on a field trip, which included visiting a snake farm – I told them they could all party inside while I stayed out in the sun LOL

So…like any of my choices? ;-)
