Swimming again…

Last weekend, we hit the pool! After a long break of nearly 5 years, I kid you not. But we finally did it!!!

Hubby found a nice little public swimming club that had a kiddy pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna (who cares?) and the best of all, 2 Olympic-sized swimming pools (indoor and outdoor).

In case you don’t know me, I love the water. I can float, swim, tread water – the only thing I dare not do is dive. But I did once from a height of more than 20 ft. Never again.

The boy was super excited, of course, and was all armed with arm floats and swim ring. He went on all the water slides, checked out all the structures and totally delighted in scaring the daylights out of his sister as he came sliding down (rolls eyes). Wait till he learns those cannon balls…

The tot was a equally excited since her fave activity is bath time πŸ˜€ But I think I spent a bad-aching 30 – 45 minutes (glowering at my absent Hubby who was having his WHALE of a time doing laps) following the toddler as she ambled, bobbed up and down and then tried to crawl in the 1 ft deep water. She drank quite a bit of water when she tumbled once so I was her personal bodyguard after that.

What did Mummy wear?

Naturally, something super sexy and glamourous like theΒ Karla Colleto Angles One-Shoulder Swimsuit (I like!!!)

I wish.

First, I tried on my old XXL-sized scuba-like swimsuit I got when I was pregnant with No. 1. Did a fashion parade in front of the Hubby who wisely kept a poker face.

But the boy? The preschooler actually pointed his finger at me and howled like an American teen laughing at geeks in high school O_O

“You look so funny, Mommy! Hahahaha…”

If the hot weather didn’t sap my energy so, I swear I’d do unmentionables to the brat. Instead, I channeled my remaining energy towards getting a new swimsuit el pronto. Or we’re all NEVER going swimming.

As luck would have it, the first swimsuit shop had an old lady who said that I didn’t need a plus size bikini. πŸ˜€

When I asked for underwired swimsuits, she pointed me to some skimpy bikinis. Err…bare jelly belly AND stretchmarks to the world? Not yet.

She recommended these look-a-likes:

Hubby has always wanted to see me in a halter top but I’m too *shy*.

Well, he got his wish when I tried it on. And the boy actually said:

“Wow, you look very nice, Mommy! Not funny at all…”

Jackpot! πŸ˜€

In the end, I went for something like this:

Good news is that we curvy gals actually look good in tankinis πŸ™‚

I love the tankini because the brief supported my pooch while the top covered the tummy area πŸ™‚

I managed to swim about 4-5 laps besides avoiding the beginners and kids trying out the adult pool. It was GREAT!!!

Since I’m adamant about getting a bit more exercise for Hubby and me, we are trying to do this every weekend. Wish us luck and have you been swimming lately?

Wow you can fit into a tankini? I need those bike shorts type. And I refuse to go to a public pool because everyone will see my flab!!!!!

Chin Nee – If you can cook yummy food for me, I’d be happy to teach you how to swim LOL πŸ˜‰ Go learnlah…

Paik Ling – Hey, have you ever tried a tankini? You’d be surprised! I was very, very, very skeptical too but the old lady insisted.

I was surprised that I looked better in a tankini (with a really short, useless and annoying skirt which I ditched!) than the bike shorts! The guys thought I looked like a sumo wrestler in the bike shorts. Go, go try one on πŸ™‚

Allisia – Ya, time flies… Next time, ok? Knowing how slim you are, I wouldn’t worry πŸ˜€ After all, you are breastfeeding!

Come on! XXL or XL?! I was seriously shocked to see how petite you are after reading all your posts about you needing super sized clothings πŸ™‚

I’d also opt for something that covers my tummy. The tankini in the photo looks great. I’m sure you look fabulous in it.

I can just imagine him going β€œYou look so funny, Mommy! Hahahaha…” – after seeing how cheeky he can be πŸ™‚

A Mom’s Diary – You’re one to talk! I was looking out for Gong Li, you know. How was I to know I’d meet a (a cuter, nicer and sweeter) Zhang Ziyi πŸ˜‰

The tankini’s not too bad although I’m conscious of boob-bobbing accidents! Think I’ll keep the halter top fantasy for the bedroom and stick to my one-piece swimsuits LOL
