Misery wants company

by KittyCat on September 9, 2008

I am having my period. I have cramps. I am tired. I am sleepy. I wish I don’t have to cook. I wish the food here is just like Malaysia so my fussy eater will eat it.

I have cockroaches all over the house – the kitchen, the hall, the bedrooms. I’ve placed RAID cockroach-killers all over the kitchen. The part-time maid has also included her local one. Guess they are all coming out to die S-L-O-W-L-Y.

The only place they are not going into is the bathroom. I wish they would rush towards the toilet bowl and drown themselves like the rats in the Pied Piper of Hamelin!

The house is falling apart. In the past 2 weeks, I’ve had:

1. The balcony flooded over and over again with soapy water and Lucas happily running all over it AND back into the hall with his muddy footprints! Replaced the washing machine tube and called the maintenance office to look at it. Only Mr. Fix It No. 2 solved the problem after a week.

2. To call the plumber twice. The bathroom drain got clogged again. Then, the kitchen sink, which is the cause of the swarm of cockroaches. Rotting wood. Stinky kitchen. Flood under the sink.

3. To call the maintenance man again. To repair the kitchen stove. Imagine cooking for the past 2 weeks with only ONE burner!

And he had to change the lock to the balcony grille – to keep Lucas out, I slammed it shut and later we found out we didn’t have the key LOL Luckily, he came fast or we’ll have a HUGE mountain of dirty clothes!!!

He also removed the ceiling lights glass panels. Phew…

4. The “beautiful” sliding wooden-cum-glass kitchen doors almost fell off its hinges! I’m waiting for Mr. Fix It to come again…

Am also waiting to see what else is going to break!

Autumn is coming soon. That means summer clothes and shoes are flying off the racks but I can’t go shopping due to Point 1. And I need to do Christmas shopping soon! And I’ll need to say goodbye to my comfy t-shirt and shorts/jeans combo…and hello to more and more layers of clothes. Rats!

Maid, maid, maid. I’m a lousy maid manager. I chat with them so much they end up not doing their work properly and of course, they enjoy working with me! I can’t help it…I’m not used to having someone in the same room for more than 1 hour and not talk to them :P

What does this mean? I’ve got to do the housework i.e. sort out the folded clothes, straighten the bedsheets, grumble to Hubby about dusty under-the-sofa or grimy kitchen surfaces. And of course, Hubby will grumble back that we’re paying the maid to do work but we end up doing it ourselves!

I wish I have all the energy and time in the world to do everythng. I don’t, which means I’ve got to be smart and sensible about the maids coming in. Less chatting and getting to know about China’s people and culture!!!

Too many balls in the air. Cooking. Caring for Lucas. Writing. Consultancy. Blogging for 3 sites!!! Managing ads, sponsorship or review requests (if any). Emails. Chatting.

Household management. Hubby management.

Making offline friends. Maintaining online and offline friendships.

Preparing for school. Picking him up from school. Playing with him. Running the pee shift. Shopping for groceries. Waiting for parcels. Signing up as substitute teacher!

In Hokkien, my Mum would say,

“Keh gao…” (English=Too smart?)

Travel. Preparing to fly back for Christmas. Shopping for Christmas presents! Shopping for Chinese New Year clothes!

PANT. PANT. PANT.

I think I told Hubby I’ll never be happy unless I had many interesting things to do. Now that I have them, I think I’m drowning!!!

I’m also feeling overwhelmed from all the Chinese spoken around me. I need some English! I’m tired of all the miserable songs on my Windows Media Player. I need some fresh songs to spring some step into my soul…

Ironically, I’m still looking for that Beijing Huan Ying Ni MP3 :-) Guess sung Chinese vs spoken Chinese is better.

Just a post to share my depression. Or scattered thoughts. Got to go back to my to-do list :P

Anyone else out there having a lousy week(s)?

I cringed when I read the part about cockroaches…imagine you have to live with it. Eee….One thing I hate is cockroach..esp the type that flies. You can see me become a sudden Olympic sprinter if there is cockroach in sight. :D

Paik Ling September 10, 2008 at 5:35 am

You definitely got too much things happening!! But are you a sado-masochist? I’ve got a fairly lousy week too…..no events to look forward to except Brandon shitting at 4 in the morning. joy joy!

Health freak September 10, 2008 at 7:38 am

Eeeee, cockroaches everywhere in the house? I’ll freak out big time if my house were invested by cockroaches. I am terrified of roaches, I even have nightmares of them!!

Julie September 10, 2008 at 1:13 pm

You sure had a lousy week. I hope that was just a nightmare in your dream. I just can’t imagine and accept it if all those things happen to me.

Vien – Thankfully these are not the type that fly! I really don’t know what I would do if they did…maybe sit down and cry.

Paik Ling – Hey, I don’t torture people, which means I’m not a sadist. Masochist? Maybe. Or just mad. In any case, I’m keeping my sexual preferences offline, thank you ;-) Shitting at 4 am? Is Brandon’s bioclock set at Tokyo time? LOL Stay sane ok

Healthfreak – I’m not a big fan of them ok. Thank God Hubby wakes up at 5 am everyday to whack and sweep away as many as he can before I wake up. I think the roach poison is working as there are 50% less already. Or maybe the weather’s getting colder for them. Whatever!

Julie – Thanks for nursing my self-pity! I *hate* to whine but really, things were getting too much to handle…

Reading your to-do lists makes me soooo tired already, imagining ACTUALLY having to do them :-) Don’t stress yourself too much OK, try to space out the tasks.

I get the “so much to do, so little time” syndrome quite often lately, so planning to take some time off work to sort them out, and kindergarten hunting.

Here’s a fun tag to cheer you up (hopefully!)

i wld sit down and cry already knowing the many roaches u have. i hate them and cannot even stand the sight of a dead one, even the newspaper ads on roaches scare me!

wow, u’re giving an insight of SAHM (with some part time work) and it’s also scaring me….not easy too eh. guess we humans are hard to please – i can imagine complaining abt being a SAHM too although i so want to be one right now. ;)

hang in there yea and look at the brighter side, u’re coming home soon! btw, are u staying all the way till cny?

KittyCat September 12, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Zara’s Mama – Yes, must remember to do that! A bit tough when you see 20-30 small cockroaches EVERY morning!!! Thank God they’ve lessened already.

A Pregnant Pause is still running. See the news feeds on the side?

A Mom’s Diary – Have fun with the kindy hunting :-) I saw the tag. Gonna do it after I clear other stuff first. Thanks, dear!

Syn – I would do the same too! Lucky Hubby helped to whack and clear them first :P Oh yeah, SAHM’s not a fun thing sometimes. Household management is all mine ok! No…we’re going back for Christmas :)

Uncle Lee September 14, 2008 at 3:39 pm

Hi Kittycat, Holy Smoke…cockroaches having parties in your house? Suggest you also spray that ‘Raid’ at the entrance of every door, window.
Thus you get them before they get one foot inside.
That bad, huh? My wife will go ballistic see one, ha ha.
You keep well and have a great week, Lee.

Angeleyes September 15, 2008 at 10:15 am

How lousy can it be compared to mine??? My entire camp was down! It is like Do-Re-Mi… everyone takes turn to have fever! It has been one week and m fever still comes and go!

Imagine being so sick and still have to do house work and care for the other 2 who are just as sick…. My whole body is like shattering into tiny pieces every time I lay down on the bed!

KittyCat September 16, 2008 at 2:15 am

Uncle Lee – Thanks for remembering me :) I don’t like chemicals, my son has “itchy” hands and I don’t have the energy to clean up after the chemicals :P The roach bait seems to be working as we see less and less of them already, thank God!

Angeleyes – It’s happening here too ;-) Lucas got a flu and cough, passed it on to Hubby and now I’m waiting my turn. I’ve been popping vit C, echinacea and drinking lots of water to keep it at bay. You’re in wonderful Penang…why not ta pau lunches or dinner? That’s what I’d do too but I can’t over here. Take care ya!
