The Chinese alphabet

by KittyCat on December 16, 2007

I know that most foreign languages e.g. Spanish and German have their own alphabets but Chinese? No, I’m not talking about the Chinese ABC but the way the mailand Chinese prononce the English ABC.

I was horror-stricken at my first shopping expedition when a salesgirl and I struggled with each other as I enquired about shirt sizes i.e. L or XL. FYI, S is “S-sze”, M is “M-moo”, L is “L-low” and XL is “X-si, L-low” or easier “jia da”. XXL is “liang jia da”, which is way, way easier than “X-si, X-si, L-low”, right?

To help you communicate with the mainland Chinese, here’s how they pronounce A to Z:

A – ay
B – bee
C – shee
D – tee
E – ee
F – eff-foo
G – chee
H – hesh-shh
I – eye
J – ?? (pronounced as Y, I think)
K – kay
L – ell-low
M – emm-moo
N – urn
O – oh
P – pee
Q – kuh-wen (sounds like “quen”, “queen” missing an “e”?)
R – arr (or something like that. R’s tough for them)
S – ass-sze
T – tee
U – yew
V – vee
W – dah-bliew
X – acks
Y – wai
Z – tset?

Poor guys…English is a foreign language for them.
